No more [ g a z i n g ] across the wasted years
Menacing gray clouds clung to the skies with desperation, refusing to give into the demands of the glowing orb behind them. The shades varied and although these clouds had once promised rain were losing their battle. The sun’s rays lightened their colors, working with the wind as the duo destroyed their enemies. Piece by piece the sun had banished the film of clouds, forcing them to move on to distant lands. The sun soon began to restore the once darkened lands, coaxing frightened animals from their hiding places. Various species poked their heads out from under rocks, the sand, and the coral that resided sturdily beneath the churning surface of the lagoon. High in the treetops, an uplifting symphony began.
Birds chirped, spreading their wings to absorb the warmth. The wind rustled the leaves whilst the water harmonized with the other two parts. The land exploded with life and the once dull shades of the land became blinding and vibrant before her very eyes. Metallic colored eyes that put the sun to shame gazed out with silent wonder and awe at the sudden change she had witnessed. Golden eyes scanned the world with a steady gaze, watching the shadows become more defined as the sun beat down. The mare cast her eyes to the side to survey the land that held the lagoon. The water was breathtaking, boasting not only its clarity but its bold and daring coloring. ’I can only imagine what hidden wonders rest beneath the surface,’ her mind mused and the Appaloosa crossed mare’s head nodded lightly in agreement. What she wouldn’t give to launch herself into the depths and swim with the fish that called this place their home.
Zihna pulled away from the edge she had found herself suddenly so close to, retreating to a safe and respectable distance away. She watched the water contort her reflection to its own will but the Quietus mare’s eyes were focused elsewhere. She watched the fish of varying colors dart in and out of her vision, watching them lure the others into their unannounced game. She smiled faintly, watching them shoot off in either direction. She saw their shadows and watched them play about in the waves. What she wouldn’t give to be carefree and enjoy the life she was living. She envied the abilities of these fish to do what they wanted to do but Zihna was constantly haunted by fear and paranoia that would often lurch her mind to ridiculous conclusions. She snorted softly, pulling away from the edge and gazed out at the sparkling surface that moved to its own accord. The sun beat down on her red roan coat, making her look like a shining copper penny flawed and scratched with scars that riddled her body and interrupted the gentle markings that labeled her as a lone Quietus mare. Inhaling the air, Zihna closed her eyes, trying to conjure up the strength that had abandoned her long ago.
